Hello, I’m Matthew. I’m from the United States, just turned 30 and have been living in Australia for a year now. First in Melbourne, where I rented a house in the southeast and then Tasmania where I was given accomodation through work. I just returned to Melbourne and I’m looking for a new place to call home, short or long term, ideally long. I have been working as a chef or cooking professionally for the last 8 years.
This year I’ll be starting culinary school in Melbourne to get my Australian degree/certifications as part of a long term goal to apply for Permanent Residency.

I think cleanliness, organization, respect and communication are key to creating a functional household where everyone is happy. I love animals but am allergic to pet and animal hair so unless you have a hypoallergenic animal it might bother me, just putting that out there. Wouldn’t necessarily be a dealbreaker and depends on the house and pet.

I’m pretty friendly but socially aware and easy going, I feel like I can respect and adapt to living and socializing with different types of people. I think it’s important that a housemate be a kind, caring person who supports human rights and is a LGBTQ ally regardless of who they’re sharing a house with.
Hobbies/interests:

Making music and playing guitar, keys or other instruments (this is something I can do silently with headphones and have a storage unit for my gear don’t worry 😆)

Right now(the last couple of days since being back) I’m just resting and taking care because I just worked some very long hours over the last 3 months. I have plenty of money set aside for accomodation and school over the next couple years and a job I can return to here in Richmond. I know I want a change of workplace so I’m going to be looking for a job where I work days and not nights as much, and to me it makes more sense to have a home base that isn’t a hostel type place when starting a new job that I care about.

Thank you for reading this, really hoping to meet someone on here that is down to talk about things over a coffee or something and see if we are compatible in a basic sense. I want to respect your vibe and space as a potential flatmate and want to make sure both our needs are met for the living situation.

Cooking just for one is harder sometimes! I’m keen to live with another foodie/home chef or actual hospitality pro or anyone I can cook for and share food with if possible. I like the idea of just having a shared shelf in the fridge and area in the storage. I’m not too fussed either way but I might be a little sad if you never want to try anything I make. If you’re vegan or gluten free or have issues with any foods let me know, i’ll make try to make you something!

They’re great but my parents in the US have adopted them. I’ll show you my cat and dog though and go on about them.
