Home Description

Description of the home

Riverside Food Forest Paradise

We are looking for a wonderful person or couple to join our paradise-in-the-making: a harmonious five-bedroom riverfront home with plans for organic food gardens, designed for thoughtful, observant, sociable introverts.

The house is fully furnished, or soon will be, so you can arrive with just a suitcase.

Rent for a couple sharing a room is $430 per week. Rooms are available for short, medium or long term stays.

There are many shared spaces to enjoy quiet companionship and creative projects: a lounge, sunroom, back deck, balcony, patio, and big backyard, and the riverbank is right out front. The garden is just beginning its next chapter. I also host WWOOFers, who are helping establish the food forest, chicken coop, and low-tech projects. There is even space for a horse.

We enjoy communal dinners most nights, that you are welcome to join or not, and everyone contributes to daily and weekly upkeep so the house stays beautiful and easy to live in.

The location is excellent: a five-minute walk to the town centre and markets, one minute to a convenience store and pub, a park across the street, and only 5km to the beach. There are views of the river, farms, and trees.

Outdoor recreation options are abundant nearby: fishing, boating, kayaking, cycling, surfing, paddleboarding, hiking, and snorkelling.

We aim to have a peaceful, organic life, with no TV and minimal digital and wireless technologies.

Pets considered.
Bicycles are available to use.

The house is occasionally host to workshops, retreats, neighbourhood potlucks, board game meet-ups, film nights, full moon parties, yoga classes, homestay guests, couchsurfers, garden working bees, and other delightful happenings.

To apply, send a paragraph or two about yourself, including your interests, values, and dreams for the future, what draws you to this household, and how long you'd like to stay.
