Home Description

Description of the home

NO: Smokers/vapers, stoners, couples or people with pets.

ABOUT THE APARTMENT:

A modern, large, light and bright two bedroom/two bathroom apartment directly across the road from Highpoint Shopping Centre.

The main bathroom includes a bath and internal laundry (with dryer). The kitchen is modern with a large dishwasher and wi-fi internet is installed.

The apartment is fully furnished/equipped, there’s some space for a few bits and pieces if you want to bring them – i.e. a few kitchen things, but this place is not suitable for anyone who is bringing significant furniture or whitegoods with them, with the exception of the bedroom for rent.

Since the master bedroom has an ensuite, you will pretty much have the main bathroom to yourself.

The building mainly consists of young professionals/couples and retirees. The building feels like living in a hotel and has a very high owner-occupier ratio. It's definitely not a building where you can have a party/stay up making noise all night.

The estate offers a central garden for residents and look-out with views of the city, plenty of lush green gardens and a lift. There is also very good security, with CCTV cameras installed in all the common areas and a video intercom security system.

ABOUT THE AREA:

Lush, green and super convenient. The complex is located directly across the road from Highpoint Shopping Centre and is very close the the Maribyrnong River and the public parks, offering plenty of walking trails and beautiful green surrounds to enjoy.

There are two tram stops within a eight minute walk. One tram takes you directly to Footscray Station and the other takes you direct into the city. There is also the HighPoint bus rink for additional public transport options. There's also a couple of GoGet pods within a 10 minute walk.

HighPoint has everything you need and because we're so close to it, you won't ever have to worry about getting a park there. We're also close to the Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre (MAC), which is a large community gym and swimming pool.

Bills and expenses

Room weekly rent includes bills (i.e. electricity, water, gas and internet).

I like whoever's renting the room to feel as at-home as possible, so I'm not into the whole 'my shelf, your shelf' thing in the kitchen or having multiples of staples that we're both using regularly. So I implement a semi-shared communal food system, where we share the cost of common house staples that we both eat regularly, and then once a quarter add up receipts and figure out if anyone owes anyone money for groceries.

Communal groceries are typically things like:
General cleaning and hygiene products: e.g. toilet paper, dishwasher tablets, laundry and kitchen cleaning supplies
Staple carbohydrates: e.g. pasta, rice, bread
Staple dairy products: e.g. milk (if both drink it), butter, parmesan cheese etc.
Staple vegetables: e.g. potatoes, carrots, onion, garlic
Herbs, spices & oils eg: olive oil, vinegars, stocks, herbs, spices
Tea/Coffee, baking supplies, sugar etc.

Groceries that individuals pay for are individual items for personal meals and snacks.

About occupants
I’m 36 and work in an office full time in NFP consultancy and as a PR manger.

I like a housemate where we can develop a friendship and enjoy a chat, tea or shared dinner but also do our own thing.

I’m pretty clean and tidy, but don’t think I’m a complete neat freak. I do make the effort to have the kitchen clean before I go to bed – I can handle a few dirty dishes, but hate waking up to the smell of old food that hasn’t been put away from the night before. I try to give the apartment a good clean i.e. vacuum, clean the bathroom etc. weekly-fortnightly.

I’m a bit of a pop-culture tragic and love Harry Potter (I’m a Ravenclaw), Disney films – particularly the 90s Renaissance era and often head to those geeky Supanova and Oz Comic Con expos. I run a bookclub, a ‘choose your own book club’ where there is no set book.

I also like being spiritual/witchy - i.e. yoga, meditation, winter solstice festivals are my vibe and I'm pretty good at reading tarot cards.

I love musicals, the Melbourne Writers Festival and trivia nights at the local pub.

If I sound like someone you'd like to live with, please do apply! :)
Compatible people
For me, any house I share with has to feel like ‘home.’ That means being able to get home from work, pop the kettle on and relax on the couch without having to worry about ‘this isn’t my tea’ or ‘is that my carton of milk?’. I prefer to have food staples communal (e.g. bread, milk, dairy products, herbs/spices, etc.) and then food can be separate for individual meals and snacks, with perhaps the occasional housemate dinner shared, whatever works best.

I've found putting food/bill receipts in a box and going through them once a month – anyone who’s paid more/is owed money then has outstanding money paid to them is a good way to make sure everyone's paying fairly for household items.

I’d like to be at a stage of my life where I don’t need a ‘house mate cleaning roster’ and we’re both the type of people who do the cleaning as it’s needed, but open to alternating some tasks like cleaning bathrooms or mopping if that's preferred.

I'm a social drinker but don't do any drugs or smoke - tobacco or marijuana, and am not comfortable having either in the house.
