Home Description

Description of the home

Welcome to McWhirters - a heritage-listed 1912 Art Deco landmark in the heart of Fortitude Valley, converted from Brisbane's original department store into loft-style apartments. This isn't a generic apartment block; it's one of Brisbane's most recognisable buildings, with soaring ceilings, oversized picture windows and genuine architectural character you won't find in a new-build high-rise.

The apartment has been recently renovated and is well-appointed throughout, with a full-size, well-equipped kitchen (modern appliances, everything you need to actually cook), air conditioning throughout, and high-speed internet. Laundry is taken care of with newer Samsung AI-smart washer and heat-pump dryer in the apartment (no shared laundromat trips, and the heat pump keeps things from getting humid), plus a balcony clothesline if you prefer air-drying. It's a warm, plant-filled home so if you've got a green thumb, you'll fit right in. If you have allergies or are sensitive to pets or plants, this may not be for you.

You've got access to a private balcony and the building's rooftop communal space, with room for lounging, dining and taking in the Valley skyline. There's a 24/7 Jetts gym connected directly to the building, plus secure off-street parking available for rent just across the road if you need it.

Your room is a good size with a built-in robe, and comes furnished with a bed, chair, side drawers, lamps, coat stand and TV — genuinely move-in ready. The bathroom is only used by occasional guests as the owner has his own ensuite - otherwise it's yours.

Location: You genuinely can't beat this for convenience. Train and bus are both on the same block, the ferry is a 10-minute walk, and the supermarket is directly across the road. You're surrounded by some of Brisbane's best bars, restaurants and nightlife with Fortitude Valley's entertainment precinct is right on your doorstep and James Street's boutiques and Howard Smith Wharves both an easy walk away. Despite its proximity to the nightlife, the apartment itself is nice and quiet.

Bills: Within reason, all bills included in rent - electricity, water, internet.

About occupants
Hi, I'm Ross - a 44, working full-time in a corporate role in Brisbane (one WFH day a week). I'm an early riser, usually up and out to the gym or for a walk from around 4am, home by 4pm most days, and in bed early. Weekdays are quiet and predictable; I don't mind a friendly chat while cooking dinner etc, but keep pretty much to myself. My partner Mark stays most weekends and usually one weeknight - a settled presence, not a revolving door.

Outside work, I'm mostly home relaxing - this is a calm, low-drama household, and I'm looking for someone who wants the same. Mark and I are often out and about exploring on the weekend, or chilling in our room.
Compatible people
Genuinely open on age, gender, sexual orientation and occupation - professional or student is fine, and I don't have a fixed idea of what you should do for work, as long as you pay your rent on time and treat this as a home, not just a place to sleep. What matters more to me is personality and lifestyle fit: friendly and polite, but not loud, and not into a party lifestyle. Occasional visitors and overnight guests are totally fine, this just isn't a home that suits a constant stream of people coming and going.

Good communication, some self awareness and honesty go a long way here, along with being clean, tidy, and respectful of shared space. I'm easy going and happy to chat over dinner or a cuppa now and then, but equally comfortable giving each other space and privacy. I'm not looking for someone who's exactly like me, just someone considerate who contributes fairly and helps keep a relaxed, comfortable vibe in the house.

Your room is private and positioned near the front door, so you've got your own independence to come and go as you please without disrupting the rest of the apartment.

Given my early start, a fellow early riser or anyone with a quiet, structured routine will likely find this an easy fit, but that's not a requirement.
Description of pets
We have two very friendly pets at home - Nym, our cat, and Louie, an Indian ringneck parrot.

Nym is social, affectionate, and toilet-trained and genuinely great company. Louie is friendly too, though he can be a bit of a food bandit, so you'll want to keep an eye on anything tasty left out. He's vocal at times but not excessively loud, and sleeps a solid 12 hours a night, so he won't disturb anyone with a normal sleep schedule (day sleepers may notice him more). Mark's bird, Levi, sometimes visits on weekends too.

If you have a pet of your own, we'd need to think it through carefully alongside our existing animals - it's not a flat no, but compatibility with Nym and Louie comes first.
