The Room:
The available room has a big east-facing window that looks out over the front garden. It is large enough for a queen size bed, dresser, desk and wardrobe. The room is unfurnished.
The rent for the room is $465.10 per week/ $2021 per calendar month paid on 11th of each month in advance. The rental price is the same for couples and singles. We know it can be tough out there for couples looking for a room and encourage couples to apply, especially for this price, but we are very open to a solo person too, so if you prefer to live in a house than a tiny overpriced apartment and can afford the rent, you’re also very welcome to get in touch.

Home Description

Description of the home

We have a big double room in a leafy green Californian bungalow in Brunswick. Prime location between Albion St and Blyth St, between Sydney Rd and Lygon St. About a minute’s walk to Lygon St and around 10 mins to Sydney Rd.

The house has two living areas- a lounge with double-glass doors and a big dining/living room- and a cute galley style kitchen and one bathroom with toilet. The laundry is separate from the house with an extra toilet, storage and there's also a lock-up workshop for any excess stuff and all your camping gear etc. Perfect back verandah looking out over the leafy back yard, ready for summer evenings, and a firepit for winter.

The wide hallway opens up into a living area with an ornate fireplace, and a loungeroom through double glass doors. The kitchen is off the living area, connected via a small hatch, and another small living/breakfast area through which is the bathroom and toilet. The back door opens up to the back verandah and lush backyard, with beautiful ornamental borders and a grassy area for summer lazing. The laundry and workshop are out the back, and there’s ROWY access via the back gate. There’s a good secure fence for the backyard with a gate at the side.

The loungeroom is furnished with a comfy sofa, two armchairs, dresser, and TV. The kitchen is stocked but there’s room for your stuff. We have plants, pictures, and books in the shared spaces. If you have furniture for the living area, especially a dining table, that would be great, as would having a fridge and washing machine.

There is street parking available and undercover secure space for bikes in the back yard.

About occupants
Matt (he/him) loves all sports, cooking, reading fantasy, and adventures with Scout. He is less talkative in the morning but more so in the evening. He is enthusiastic about trying new hobbies and you might find him experimenting with wood working, or tinkering with bikes. He travels often and loves long drives. He usually wfh one day a week.

Beth (she/her) is extremely into gardening, singing songs to Scout, reading, and hikes in the bush. She is talkative in the morning but less so in the evening. She can’t maintain interest in watching an entire TV series, but has some success with the occasional puzzle or collage. Is practical, calm and a useful person to know in a zombie apocalypse. She usually wfh one day a week and also spends one whole weekend day at home gardening and cooking.
Compatible people
You:
We’re looking for a couple or single person in their mid-30s to late 40s, who is looking for a stable and calm place to call home for a min. 6-12 month stay. Preferably you will also have a professional kind of job situation and wfh just one or two days a week, and be okay with having a desk set up in your room so we can keep the shared living areas work-free. Ideally you will have good experience in sharehouses, be independent and have your own thing going and do most of your socialising out of the house. You’re also happy to have some occasional shared house times. We’d like to live with people who tidy up after themselves in the kitchen, and have no problem pitching in to keep the house clean. Loving or at least really liking dogs is important. We can consider another dog if they and Scout get along. You’ll need to be comfortable with very left politics. No terf/swerfs/zios etc- it’s Brunswick.
Description of pets
Scout: Genuine friend to the world. Loves a snuggle, a walk, carrots, and playing fetch. She is 6.5 years old, a bit short for a Labrador, and starting to get a bit lazy in her downtime. She’s very happy to perform tricks for an audience, is clean, very well-trained and in general is a ridiculously happy dog. Has a legion of fans lined up to host her if we are both traveling at the same time.
